An influx of visitors will stroll the downtown streets of Swansboro this Saturday during the annual Arts by the Sea.
The festival will showcase artists from across the state and beyond. Streets will be lined with vendors selling such things as jewelry, pottery, iron works, paintings and furniture.
“We are really excited about our selection of ‘artful’ vendors this year,” said Judy Hailey, executive director of the Swansboro Festivals Committee, sponsor of the event. “Arts by the Sea is made unique by the gathering of vendors of hand-made products. It is amazing what you will see at this event with all the creativity and imagination these vendors have on display for sale.”
More than 70 art and food vendors will be on hand to deliver an enjoyable experience to locals and area visitors.
“Each year the festival committee looks forward to making new additions to enhance the festivals for public enjoyment,” said Hailey.
One new addition this year is a cooking demonstration by Charles Park, a chef from Beaufort Grocery and Shepard’s Point. Tickets for the cooking demonstration are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. The cooking demonstration will be at the corner of Front and Church streets.
Additionally, the festival will include a wine tasting. The wine tasting will also be on the corner of Front and Church streets. Tickets for this event are $30 in advance or $35 at the gate.
“Our second annual Wine Tasting Gallery has grown,” explained Hailey, “not only from the size of the venue but with the addition of a cooking demonstration.”
The cooking class will take place 10 a.m.-noon and the wine tasting will take place 1-4 p.m.
A new wine will be unveiled at this year’s event.

Weather permitting, downtown Swansboro will be a busy place and many downtown merchants are looking forward to the festival.
“We always look forward to Arts by the Sea,” said Kaye Davis, owner of Harbor House, a downtown gift shop. “It seems to kick off the summer season and we enjoy seeing all the new and returning artists.”
Vendor booths will be placed along Front Street and along the 100 blocks of Main and Church streets. Streets will be blocked from vehicular traffic from Water Street to the White Oak River.
“We like to stress to people that pets are not allowed in the festival area,” said Ed Parrish, chief of the Swansboro Police Department. “No bikes or skateboards are allowed, either. In addition to Front Street being closed to vehicular traffic, other roads will be congested. Drivers should be extremely cautious of pedestrians.”
The streets will be closed to vehicles from 6 a.m. to approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Visitors may want to take advantage of parking at the town’s municipal parking lot at the corner of Church Street and NC 24 and at Riverview Park.
