This limited-run, premier white marks Chapter One of a legendary collection celebrating Duplin Winery’s golden jubilee in 2026. This is the first wine in the Duplin 50th Anniversary Series, a total of five small-batch vintages, one released each quarter and every label fitting together to tell a different chapter in the Duplin story. Our winemakers chose the finest golden bronze Scuppernong grapes, descendants of North Carolina’s historic Mother Vine, America’ oldest cultivated vine, to yield the uniquely sweet essence of our Rose Hill, N.C., beginnings in 1976.
Richly bodied, full of fresh grape flavor balanced with notes of ripe pear and honey, with a hint of acidity on the finish, 1976 Reserve pairs beautifully with hearty family meals and spicy dishes. Think tender roast beef, double-cut smoked pork chops, jalapeno mac & cheese, fried seafood, and homemade pound cake smothered in poached pears or peaches and whipped cream.
A scuppernong wine was among the first wines Duplin released in 1976. But really, the story begins centuries before when native peoples foraged the wild muscadine grapes that today still thrive in coastal forests of the Carolinas. Explorers marveled at the abundance.
