Blackberry Syrup

Don’t underestimate the simplicity of this recipe. You’ll use it in all kinds of dishes. Pour it over vanilla ice cream for blackberry sundaes. Add a splash to sparkling wine, iced coffee or iced tea. It’s also good in hot coffee or tea. Think savory, too. Stir this syrup into barbecue sauces and brush it on pork chops or ribs just before they come off the grill. Consider Blackberry Wine Syrup for your next glazed ham. And it’s mighty fine on brunch waffles.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Duplin Blackberry wine

Directions:

  1. Place sugar and wine in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir mixture until the sugar melts.
  3. Slowly cook the mixture until it is reduced by half and thickened to the consistency of light-bodied syrup. It should cling to the back of a spoon.
  4. Makes about 1½ cups.
