Worried that Halloween is going to be canceled this year. Fear not. One of the best parts of Halloween is candy, and candy tastes even better when you pair it with wine.
We're talking all kinds of candy here: Snickers, Skittles, Twizzlers, Kit Kat, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and all the other candies out there, even Pop Rocks.
So go ahead and put on that costume in 2020, host a few friends or arrange a virtual wine an d Halloween candy pairing. Set out bowls of candy with a Duplin At Home Wine Tasting Kit and let your crew experiment with pairings. Follow these tips to get your started.
Chocolate and port
Chocolate and port is a classic pairing. Port goes well with caramel, too. Duplin American Port Wine's fruit-forward warmth brings out everything wonderful about chocolate. Sip it with with Kit Kat bars, Milky Way, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Twix, Hershey's Mini Bars, M & Ms and any other of your favorite chocolate candies. Port also pairs well with candy corn.
Sour and sweet
Lemonheads, Jolly Rancher, Sour Patch Kids and other sour candies need sweeter wines to balance their tart flavors. Try them with Black River Red, Sangria White, Sangria Red an, Sangria Rose.
Gummy bears, Starburst, Skittles and Swedish Fish call for sweet, fruity wines that compliment the candy's fruit flavor. Try these candies with Sweet Poppy, Easy, Cool, Sangria Red and Sunset Red
Just for fun
Yes, you can play with your candy. Some candies make that obvious, like red Twizzlers. Bite off the ends and use the candy as a straw to drink up any Duplin wine. Drop Pop Rocks into sparkling wines like Sweet Lily, Sweet Rose and Sweet Poppy to a fun crackle. Dip Tootsie Pops into a glass of wine for a dip and lick while you drink experience.
