Oh, the many joys that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches bring. There’s that calming sensation that comes with spreading smooth, creamy peanut butter across a slice of bread. The nutty aroma makes your mouth water with anticipation. Little grape jelly drips slipping from between the sandwich are permission lick your fingers. All squished together, PB&Js are both dinner and dessert, and a super-cheap meal, so why not raise the bar?

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are more versatile than you think. Peanut butter’s savory flavor means you can pair it with all sorts of delicious things that might not cross your mind. Jelly adds just enough sweetness to endear it to lots of add-ins.

Here are five ways we like to take this dynamic duo to the next level.

S’mores PB&J

Layer peanut butter, lots of marshmallow cream and plenty of chocolate sauce on one side of a piece of bread. Spread Duplin Gourmet Muscadine Grape Jelly on another slice of bread and then lay it jelly-side-down over the peanut butter, marshmallow and chocolate side for a sandwich both kids and adults will adore.

Double-extra-crunchy PB&J

Spread peanut butter on one slice of bread and sprinkle Bertie County Honey Roasted Peanuts over the peanut butter. Spread Duplin Gourmet Hatteras Red Wine Jelly on the other slice of bread and lay it jelly-side-down over the peanut butter.

Spicy PB&J burger

No, we’re not kidding. Follow “Duplin Dine & Wine” host Frank’s tips for grilling the best burger ever. Slather peanut butter on the bottom bun and lay the burger over it. Place a few sliced, pickled jalapenos over the burger. Spread Duplin Gourmet Muscadine Pepper Jelly on the top bun and place jelly-side-down on top of the burger.

Grilled PB&J

Build any of the above PB&Js and then grill them on both sides in a buttered skillet over medium heat until the sandwich filling is warm.

Veggielicious PB&J

Spread peanut butter on one slice of bread and sprinkle Bertie County Sea Salt & Pepper Peanuts over the peanut butter. Lay thinly sliced cucumber over the peanuts. Sprinkled grated parmesan cheese over cucumbers.Spread Duplin Gourmet Scuppernong Grape Jelly on the other slice of bread and place jelly-side-down over the cucumbers.
