Delicious Thanksgiving Desserts

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner!

This time of year is our favorite at Duplin Winery as we gather with family and friends and remember what we are most thankful for. We’ve got a list of delicious Thanksgiving desserts that you won’t want to miss out on this year, each one made especially with Duplin Winery in mind.

Scuppernong Cake

Did you know that Scuppernong grapes are the North Carolina state fruit? Our Scuppernong wine has been a Duplin tradition since 1976. The sweet white wine has a fruity finish and tastes scrumptious in this Thanksgiving dessert.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 bottle of Duplin’s Scuppernong Wine
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 box vanilla instant pudding
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 cup toasted pecans
  • 1 cup of wine (to be added after the cake has been fully baked)
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup wine

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Combine eggs, oil, and cake mix together in a mixing bowl. Stir at medium speed for 4 minutes until fully mixed together and then add in pecans. Place cake in oven and bake for 50 minutes.
  • Mix together 1/2 cup of Scuppernong wine, 3/4 cup of sugar and 1/3 cup butter to create the glaze for the cake. Bring the glaze to a boil for 10 minutes over medium heat.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and immediately pour half of the glaze over the cake.
  • Allow cooling for 10 minutes. After removing the cake from the pan and pour the rest of the glaze.
  • Pour 1 cup of Scuppernong wine to top of the cake to complete.

Pumpkin Spice Roll

Pumpkin season won’t be here for much longer! Add this Pumpkin Spice Roll with Naughty & Nice wine into your Thanksgiving. It’s sure to be a hit with everyone in the family.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup canned pumpkin
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • (2) 1/4 cups of Duplin’s Naughty & Nice wine
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 18-oz package cream cheese softened
  • 3 tbs butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Line a 10 x 15 cookie sheet with foil and spray with oil.
  • Mix together 3 eggs, 2/3 canned pumpkin, 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup Duplin’s Naughty & Nice wine, 1 tsp soda and 1/2 tsp cinnamon to create pumpkin mixture. Pour mix onto a cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Combine 18-oz package cream cheese, 3 tbs butter, 1 tsp vanilla, 3/4 cup powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of Duplin’s Naughty & Nice wine to create the filling.
  • Remove pumpkin mixture from oven and spread with filling. Roll up jelly-roll style and wrap tightly with plastic wrap.
  • Refrigerate for 4 hours. Serve.

Pink Magnolia Cream Cheese Pie

Traditionally around the holiday's many people indulge in apple pie, pumpkin pie and blueberry pie. Why not switch it up this year and try creating this Pink Magnolia Cream Cheese pie?

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 (8-oz) packages of cream cheese
  • 1 and 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 pint sour cream
  • Strawberries
  • 1 cup of Duplin’s Pink Magnolia

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix together 2 (8-oz) packages of cream cheese, 3/4 cup sugar, 3 eggs and 1/8 tsp of vanilla. Pour mixture into a buttered pie dish and bake for 40-45 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  • Mix together 1/2 pint sour cream, 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 tsp of vanilla.
  • Pour mixture over pie, leaving 1/2 inch crust around the edge. Place pie in the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • Marinate strawberries in 1 cup of Duplin’s Pink Magnolia and 1/2 a cup of sugar for 2 hours.
  • Spoon strawberries over pie slices.
