Nature’s Bounty

Ah, the dilemmas of harvest time! It’s that time of year when…

Your doorbell rings, and you peek out to see a neighbor standing there with a giant basket of zucchini. You can’t decide if you want to make 10 loaves of bread or pretend that you’re not home and hope he goes away (with the zucchini).

You have to stop yourself from spontaneously pulling over at the next roadside stand with a hand-painted “tomatoes” sign because you just left the farmers’ market with a bushel of tomatoes.

You’re not sure whether to make pickles with the latest basket of cucumbers you just harvested, slice them up with some vinegar and sugar and then make an old-fashioned cucumber sandwich…or pass them off to the neighbor to thank him for the zucchini.

You comb the Internet for a new salsa, relish and jelly recipes, while thinking that it’s really too nice outside at this time of year to be working with a hot canner. On the other hand, you know that, come January, you will be your family’s food hero if you just fill up those pint jars.

After picking, freezing, canning, cooking and trading with friends all of the gifts of the garden, it’s time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Now, here’s a dilemma: which Duplin wine will you open to celebrate the day’s harvest? Don’t worry, whichever one you choose, you’ve made the right decision!

Want something cool and refreshing on a hot summer day? A homemade wine cooler will be a delightful treat! Grab a bottle of Sunset Red wine and check out this recipe, Duplin’s Homemade Wine Coolers.

Here’s a fun challenge: Make up your own homemade wine cooler recipe using your favorite Duplin wine. Which wine will you freeze into cubes? What mixer will you use? Share your wine cooler idea with us in the comments below.

The finest reward at harvest time is putting together a delicious meal full of fresh goodness. Light up the grill and try our easy Chick on a Stick recipe. Cut up some of those beautiful fresh veggies and/or fruits you have gathered and put them out in a colorful “salad bar” style, so that family members can make their own delicious salad combinations. Offer a choice of Duplin’s Muscadine Orange Poppyseed Dressing and Vidalia Onion Peppercorn Salad Dressing, along with croutons and other fun toppings. Serve up your meal with a thankful heart for nature’s bounty.

Speaking of nature’s bounty, we at Duplin Winery are gearing up for grape harvest time. Soon, tons of sweet, delicious muscadine grapes will arrive at our Rose Hill production facility, ready to be crushed and made into your favorite Duplin wines. Stay tuned for news and views of harvest time at Duplin Winery.
