Recipe: Pelican Paradise

From: Duplin Winery

Ingredients:
  • 3 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 packet Duplin Pelican Red Sweetzer wine slushie mix
  • 1/2 bottle Duplin Pelican Red wine
  • 1 packet Duplin Electric Lemonade wine slushie mix
  • 1/2 bottle Duplin Sangria White wine
  • ice
Directions:

Bartender's note:  While we typically pair Electric Lemonade Sweetzer with Duplin Magnolia or Midnight Magnolia, for this recipe, we love how the mango and citrus notes of Sangria White enhance the Pelican Red Rush's burst of berry.

Garnish this drink with a mini baseball pennants you can make yourself. Copy a mini version of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans logo on a piece of paper cut into a tall triangle, with the logo on the wide end, and use glue to secure to a toothpick.

  1. Place 4 tall glasses in the freezer.
  2. Place strawberries, Pelican Red Rush Sweetzer mix and Pelican Red wine in a blender container. Whizz at high speed until mixture is thick and slushie. The mixture should be thick enough to mound on a spoon. Add more ice and blend again to thicken mixture. Remove mixture to a pitcher and place in the freezer.
  3. Rinse blender container. Add Electric Lemonade Sweetzer mix and Sangria White wine to the blender container. Fill container with ice and whizz at high speed until mixture is thick and slushie. The mixture should be thick enough to mound on a spoon. Add more ice and blend again to thicken mixture.
  4. Remove glasses and Pelican Red slushie mixture from the freezer. Add 2 large spoonfuls of the Pelican Red slushie mixture into each glass. Top with 2 large spoonfuls of the Electric Lemonade slushie mixture. Repeat until glasses are full. Serve immediately or refreeze until serving time. If refreezing, remove glasses from the freezer 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
  5. Make 4 to 6 servings.
