Star Spangled Sangria
Chock full of red and blue summer berries, plus starfruit, this nod to the Stars & Stripes is an easy, all-American, white wine sangria recipe, spiked with blueberry vodka, that will have everyone standing at salute this 4th of July. Look for starfruit in the tropical fruit section of the supermarket. And don't use frozen berries in this sangria! Also, don't soak the fruit. You don't want the colors of the berries to bleed into this white sangria. We like to use a blend of soft-dry Duplin Carlos and crystal-sweet Duplin Cotton Candy Lime, but you could use just one or the other. Also, experiment with your favorite Duplin white wine.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh strawberries
- 2 large or 4 small starfruit
- 2 cups fresh blueberries (do not use frozen)
- 1/3 cup blueberry vodka
- 1 bottle Duplin Carlos
- 1 bottle Duplin Cotton Candy Lime
- Half of a 2-liter bottle lemon-lime soda such as Sprite or 7-Up
Directions:
- Wash and stem strawberries. Cut starberries into quarters. Set aside
- Wash starfruit and cut into ¼-inch thick slices. Set aside.
- Rinse blueberries. Set aside.
- Pour vodka, Duplin Carlos and Duplin Cotton Candy Lime into a large, clear glass pitcher.
- Slowly add soda to the pitcher. Stir gently.
- Carefully add fruit to the pitcher.
- Fill glasses with ice. Pour in sangria. Add some of the fruit to each glass.
- Makes 10 servings.
