Country Sausage Queso

Melty cheese dip loaded with sausage, and just so darn easy to make. Country Sausage Queso is the snack your NCAA basketball championship party  needs. Or any sports party. We even love it when we don't feel much like cooking on a Friday night.

Ingredients:

  • ½ pound mild or spicy country-style bulk sausage
  • ¼ pound chorizo
  • One 16-ounce package Velveeta, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 jar Duplin Gourmet Muscadine Pineapple Habanero Salsa
  • 1 or 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 or 2 jalapenos, seeded and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup chopped fresh tomato
  • Duplin Gourmet Homemade Crackers

Directions:

  1. Heat a large, nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add country sausage and cook until finely crumbled and browned, stirring occasionally. Drain fat from sausage. Remove sausage from the pan. Set aside sausage.
  2. Put the skillet back on the stove over medium heat. Add chorizo to the skillet and cook until finely crumbled and browned. Drain fat from chorizo. Remove chorizo from the pan. Set aside chorizo but do not mix with the country sausage.
  3. Place Velveeta cubes, country sausage and Duplin Gourmet Muscadine Pineapple Habanero Salsa in a deep, glass baking dish or ceramic casserole. Place cheese in the microwave and cook on high heat for 1 minute. Stir cheese and return to microwave and cook on high for 1 minute before stirring again. Continue cooking and stirring cheese until cheese is fully melted.
  4. Remove cheese from microwave and stir in green onion.
  5. Sprinkle chorizo, jalapenos and chopped tomato over the hot queso. Serve with Duplin Gourmet Homemade Crackers.
  6. Makes 16-20 appetizer servings.
